Promoting healthy futures in a rural refugee resettlement location: A community-based participatory research intervention

The resettlement of refugees in rural areas is presenting new challenges for healthcare. This article reports on a community-based participatory research project that explored understandings health and care across the life course refugee-background community regional south-east Australia. Participants identified key challenges, including lack access to local services address their complex needs problems created by communicating languages, cultures, ontologies. Clear opportunities were improving meet communities. Building participant recommendations, we argue appropriate, high-quality healthcare requires cultivation dialogue respect different care. We suggest approaches grounded an ethos collaboration, power-sharing provide way forward, not just research, but embedding practices cultural safety resettlement.
